Health

Staying well before, during and after your trip.

Visit a travel clinic 4–6 weeks before departure for recommended vaccinations and advice. Common recommendations include hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus, and rabies for longer or remote trips.

Stomach bugs are the most common traveler complaint — stick to freshly cooked, hot food and treated water. Carry oral rehydration salts and a basic medical kit including medication for diarrhea.

In the Terai lowlands (Chitwan, Lumbini), protect against mosquito-borne illness with repellent and long sleeves in the evenings. Sun protection is essential everywhere — the high-altitude sun is fierce.

Comprehensive travel insurance covering trekking at your intended altitude and helicopter evacuation is strongly recommended. Medical facilities are limited in the mountains; serious cases are evacuated to Kathmandu.
