Travel between Kathmandu and the Chitwan area is commonly done by road, with tourist buses, local buses and private vehicles serving the main visitor routes. Travel times vary, so treat the journey as a substantial part of the day.
Road conditions, traffic and weather can change the experience significantly. Leave early when possible and avoid scheduling a fixed wildlife activity immediately after an optimistic arrival time.
Flights may be available depending on current schedules and the airport serving your destination, but they still require ground transfers at each end and can be affected by weather.
If your accommodation includes transfers from a bus stop or airport, confirm the pickup point before travel. Chitwan tourism is spread across several localities, so the name of the region alone is not enough for precise arrival planning.
For the return journey, keep extra margin if you are connecting to an international flight. A separate night in Kathmandu is safer than depending on same-day road transport.
