Taxis & Ride Apps
Getting around cities by taxi and ride-hailing apps.
Taxis are plentiful in Kathmandu, Pokhara and other cities. Agree the fare before you get in, or insist on the meter. Ride-hailing apps (such as Pathao and inDrive) operate in the main cities and often offer fairer, upfront pricing.
Airport taxis are more expensive — walk outside the terminal to the pre-paid booth or use an app where available. For day trips around the Kathmandu Valley, negotiate a fixed fare for the whole trip.
Tempos (three-wheelers) and local microbuses are cheap options for short hops within cities. They're an experience in themselves.
For trekking drop-offs and remote trailheads, hire a private jeep through your hotel or a trekking agency — public transport rarely reaches the trailhead itself.
