Tilicho Lake
Tilicho Lake is a dramatic high-Himalayan lake in Manang at about 4,919 metres, reached by a demanding side trip from the Annapurna Circuit area. Its blue water sits below steep, barren slopes and snow-covered peaks.
Tilicho combines a serious high-altitude approach with one of the Annapurna region's most striking landscapes. Reaching the lake feels earned: the trail climbs through dry Manang terrain to a stark basin where water, rock and ice dominate the view.
Best time to visit: March to May and September to November are the main trekking windows. Snow, ice, landslide exposure and changing trail conditions can make the route much harder outside stable weather periods.
Getting there: Travel toward Manang on the Annapurna Circuit route, then continue through Khangsar toward Tilicho Base Camp before hiking to the lake. Road and trail access changes, so confirm the current route and trekking requirements before starting.
Recommended stay: 3–5 days from Manang for the side trip and return, in addition to acclimatization time.
Acclimatize in Manang before going higher; do not treat Tilicho as a rushed day trip from low altitude.
Start the lake hike early and carry water, sun protection, insulating layers and traction appropriate to current conditions.
Confirm current permit, guide and trail requirements before departure.
