Everest Base Camp

The most famous trek in the world. From the airstrip at Lukla, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi through Sherpa villages to the foot of Everest, passing Namche Bazaar, the monastery at Tengboche and the glacial moraine of the Khumbu to reach Base Camp and the Kala Patthar viewpoint.

Difficulty: Challenging. Typical duration: 12–14 days. Best season: Spring (Mar–May), Autumn (Oct–Nov).

Several nights above 4,000m and a high point near 5,545m. Acclimatization days in Namche and Dingboche are essential.

Strong walking fitness — able to hike 5–7 hours a day at altitude with a daypack.

Sagarmatha National Park entry + local Khumbu entry requirements + agency-issued TIMS; Nepal Tourism Board currently lists Everest Base Camp among routes requiring a licensed trekking guide

Altitude is the main risk. Ascend slowly, take acclimatization days, hydrate, and descend immediately with severe headache, nausea or breathlessness. Lukla flights are weather-dependent — keep buffer days. Carry insurance that covers helicopter evacuation.

Costs vary widely with flight timing, season, guide/porter arrangements and itinerary. Budget for the Lukla flight, permits, licensed guide services required under current NTB rules, teahouse lodging and food (which rises with altitude). Treat any figure as guidance, not a fixed price.
