Everest Region
The Khumbu, home of the Sherpa people, is the roof of the world. Below Everest rise some of the highest villages on earth, ancient monasteries and trails that climb through pine, then dwarf rhododendron, then bare glacial moraine toward the great peaks.
For the scale. The Khumbu offers the most dramatic mountain scenery in Nepal — Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam — and a deep Sherpa culture of hospitality and mountaineering heritage. It is the ultimate Himalayan trekking destination.
Best time to visit: October to November and March to May. Winter is cold and quiet; summer monsoon brings clouds to the lower Khumbu.
Getting there: A scenic 35-minute flight to Lukla from Kathmandu (or Ramechhap in peak season), then trek. Helicopter and road-via-Salleri options exist.
Recommended stay: 12–16 days for a full Base Camp trek; shorter viewpoint treks are possible.
Fly to Lukla early morning for the best weather.
Everest Base Camp is currently on Nepal Tourism Board's licensed-guide/TIMS list; also confirm Sagarmatha National Park and local Khumbu entry requirements before departure.
Build acclimatization days — altitude is the main risk.
