The essentials to sort before you fly — documents, timing, money and mindset.
Nepal rewards a little preparation. Before you go, sort your passport validity and visa, decide your season, arrange trekking permits if needed, and line up travel insurance that covers trekking at altitude and helicopter evacuation.
Most travelers enter via Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Build a buffer day or two into your itinerary for weather-related domestic flight delays, especially if you're flying to Lukla, Jomsom or Bharatpur.
Carry some cash (USD and NPR), a few cards, and a plan for ATMs, which can be unreliable outside major cities. Download offline maps and key documents in case of limited connectivity in the mountains.
Finally, travel with an open mind. Nepal runs on its own rhythm — schedules flex, weather changes plans, and the warmth of the welcome more than makes up for any inconvenience.
