Annapurna Base Camp
A shorter, classic trek into the Annapurna Sanctuary — a high glacial basin ringed by Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare. The trail climbs through Gurung villages, terraced fields and rhododendron forest before emerging into the dramatic mountain amphitheater.
Difficulty: Moderate. Typical duration: 7–10 days. Best season: Spring (Mar–May), Autumn (Oct–Nov).
Reaches 4,130m at Base Camp. The ascent is gradual enough that with steady pacing most trekkers acclimatize well.
Good general fitness — daily 5–6 hour walks with some steep sections.
Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) entry + TIMS requirements; current NTB rules require licensed guides/TIMS on listed Annapurna routes, so confirm the exact itinerary with a registered agency
Avalanche risk exists on the section between Deurali and MBC in certain snow conditions — check with lodges and rangers. Ascend steadily to manage altitude. The trail has many stone steps; trekking poles help knees on the descent.
Annapurna Base Camp is one of the more affordable major treks thanks to easy road access from Pokhara and plentiful teahouses. Main costs are permits, transport to Nayapul, food and lodging (which rises with altitude), plus a guide/porter if hired. Treat figures as guidance only.
