Annapurna Region
The Annapurna region is Nepal's most varied trekking area — from lush rhododendron forest and terraced rice paddies to the high desert of the Thorong La and the glacial amphitheater of Annapurna Sanctuary. It is accessible, well-serviced and extraordinarily scenic.
Annapurna offers something for every level: short Poon Hill sunrise walks, the moderate Mardi Himal ridge, the classic Base Camp, and the epic Circuit crossing a 5,400m pass. Pokhara makes a comfortable base, and the teahouse network is the best in Nepal.
Best time to visit: October to November and March to April. December–February is cold but clear; rhododendrons bloom in spring.
Getting there: Base from Pokhara. Trailheads (Nayapul, Kade, Besisahar) are reached by road in 1–3 hours.
Recommended stay: 4–15 days depending on the trek chosen.
ACAP entry applies in the Annapurna Conservation Area; current TIMS and licensed-guide requirements are route-specific, so verify your exact itinerary before trekking.
Roads now reach some villages — plan your route to avoid road sections where possible.
Teahouses are plentiful; pre-booking only needed in peak season.
