Pokhara
Pokhara is Nepal's most easygoing city — a lakeside town where the air smells of pine and the Annapurnas rise straight out of the reflection on Phewa Lake. It is the natural launch point for treks into the Annapurna region and a place to slow down before or after the mountains.
Few places let you watch the sun rise over an 8,000m wall of snow from a café, paddle a boat across a mirror-still lake at noon, and be on a trailhead by afternoon. Pokhara is that place — relaxed, beautiful, and the comfortable base for some of Nepal's best trekking.
Best time to visit: October to November for clear mountain views and dry weather; March to April for rhododendron bloom and warmer days. Monsoon (June–September) clouds the peaks but keeps the lake green and quiet.
Getting there: A 25-minute domestic flight from Kathmandu, or a 6–7 hour tourist bus / private car along the Prithvi Highway. The flight is dramatic when weather allows; the road is scenic but winding.
Recommended stay: 2–4 days, or longer if using Pokhara as a trekking base.
Book the Sarangkot trip the evening before — departures are around 5am.
Domestic flights to/from Kathmandu are often delayed in monsoon and winter fog; keep a buffer day.
Before an Annapurna trek, confirm current ACAP, TIMS and licensed-guide requirements for your exact route with Nepal Tourism Board or a government-registered trekking agency.
