Dhangadhi
Dhangadhi is the principal urban gateway to Nepal's far west, a busy lowland city in Kailali District with air links, road connections, markets and services useful before heading toward the hills, national parks or border region.
Most travelers use Dhangadhi as a staging point rather than a final destination, but that role is valuable: it is where remote Far West itineraries become practical. Stock up, arrange vehicles, recover from long journeys and experience the food and rhythms of the western Terai.
Best time to visit: October to March is most comfortable. April to June can be very hot, and the monsoon is humid with heavier rain.
Getting there: Dhangadhi has domestic air connections with Kathmandu and is also reached by Nepal's east-west highway network. Long-distance buses connect it with other major cities.
Recommended stay: 1–2 nights as a gateway, longer if exploring Kailali.
Do major cash withdrawals and supply shopping here before remote travel.
Confirm onward jeep or bus departures a day in advance when heading into the hills.
Allow heat recovery time if arriving in late spring or summer.
