Getting Around Nepal
Flights, buses, jeeps and the reality of travel times in Nepal.
Distances in Nepal are short but travel is slow — mountain roads are winding and weather-dependent. Build buffer time into any itinerary, especially around domestic flights.
Domestic flights connect Kathmandu to Lukla, Pokhara, Bharatpur, Bhairahawa, Jomsom and more, but are frequently delayed or cancelled by weather. Always keep a spare day.
Tourist buses run the main routes (Kathmandu–Pokhara, Kathmandu–Chitwan) and are comfortable enough; local buses are cheaper but slower and more crowded. Private cars and jeeps offer flexibility at higher cost.
In the mountains, you travel on foot. Trekking is the transport — plan routes, permits and accommodation ahead in peak season.
